Day 2 in New York

Mijn dag startte vroeg, logisch vanwege het tijdverschil. Na een douche en in de lobby berichten en nieuws ophalen die over het algemeen betrekking hebben op het bom incident van afgelopen nacht, ga ik op zoek naar mijn ontbijt. Nog onbekend in mijn regio loop ik richting het Whitney en kom ik bij Chelsea market terecht: dicht. Aan de overkant een Starbucks die open is.. daar een thee en yoghurt gegeten. 

Mooie basis voor de dag. Ik ga met de metro naar Brooklyn om daar op zoek te gaan naar de vlooienmarkt. In verband met werkzaamheden rijden de metro treinen niet allemaal volgens het boekje. Ik kom in Brooklyn terecht, alleen niet in de straat die ik had gepland. Geen probleem hoor..ik heb nu het Brooklyn bridge park gezien en gelopen. Wat super gaaf daaraan was, was dat de Manhattan en Brooklyn bridge nu samen op de foto staan. 

Na uitgebreid lopen, kijken, fotograferen en tekenen van Brooklyn bridge en Manhattan bridge loop ik naar de start van het looppad op de Brooklyn bridge. 

Het eerste wat he ziet is de brug, daarna de massaliteit van de stad, nog half verscholen in de laaghangende bewolking. 

Zo mooi dit.....

Alles is licht bruin geschilderd om de brug en de stellage een te laten lijken . 

Aan de overkant van de brug staat de stad half in de bewolking. Dit is one world trade center, deze week zeker nog te bezoeken. 

Op naar de metro (city hall) om naar Soho te gaan. Shoppen: converse, muji, under armour, en natuurlijk koffie met lekkers...

In little italy is er een feest gaande: feast de San Gennarro. Een aantal straten staan vol met tentjes om te zitten en eten of gewoon eten te kopen. Van ijs tot cannoli, van pasta tot aardappel op een stokje. Wat een vreet-feest, druk en super gezellig. 

Na de drukte van little italy had ik behoefte aan uitzicht, rust en water. Met de metro, die overigens echt super heet en vochtig is...., ik zal je de details besparen, naar bowling green, metro halte van Battery Park. Met uitzicht op de "iron lady" en de boten en bedrijvigheid op het water zat ik prima bij pier A. 

Met een mooie puzzeltocht in en met de metro ivm de al eerder genoemde werkzaamheden kom ik in mijn vertrouwde buurtje Chelsea/meatpacking district/Greenwich village aan. Na nog eerst een digitale maar daarna fysieke zoektocht naar een supermarkt in de buurt eindig ik moe maar zeer voldaan in mij schattige hotel. Oh, by the way, mijn hotel heeft een rooftop bar.. zie hieronder de foto's. 

17 september, big Apple, big bang

2e Start met wegbrengen door izzy, na zijn nachtdienst, op schiphol, Kiss and ride. 

Na een snelle grenscontrole, douane controle en lichaam- en tassen controle binnen op schiphol, niemandsland. 

2e ontbijt, halve lunch, wie zal het zeggen als je eerste ontbijt om 5:30 is en dit om 9:15... het smaakt in ieder geval heerlijk. 

Lekker bloemig uitzicht..

Ik vlieg met KLM /delta. Met onderweg een gegrilde kip salade, ijsje halverwege en een turkey cheese sandwich. Voldoende drinken erbij en ernaast. Ong 30 later vertrokken maar 30 min eerder aangekomen. 12:30 op de grond. 

Douane en grenscontrole is echt een heel ander verhaal. Druk!! Niet normaal. En het helpt niet als je tijdens de lunch asnkomt. Er zat 1 beambte.....

Daarna met de airtrain (zie foto) en de metro A, naar Manhattan. Geen spectaculair entree, daarvoor moet je met de taxi gaan, maar super snel, goed, en goedkoop, 8 dollar tov 65 dollar. Als je met meer gaat wordt het verschil relatief kleiner..

Vanaf de metro is het een klein stukje lopen naar het "the Jane hotel". Wat een super kleine, maar meteen al zeer goed voelende kamer!

Mijn rugzakinhoud verwissel ik van "vliegen" naar "lopen in de stad" en ik besluit een omzwermend rondje in de buurt te maken. Het is tenslotte gewoon pas 16:00 uur. En nog best vroeg en lekker warm buiten.  

Ik steek de straat over richting de hudson river en sta meteen oog in oog met "one world trade center" en tot mijn verrassing ook met het Vrijheidsbeeld! (F,F)

Ik loop richting noord, kom erachter dat je niet overal de straat kunt oversteken en doe dat bij Chelsea market. (F)

Daar loop ik deze keer doorheen. Het is do druk nu, zaterdagmiddag ....

Ik heb nog genoeg tijd om dat beter te bekijken, later. 

Ik kom uit naast de Apple store, haal mijn berichten op en contact met Izzy. 

Ik stop bij een koffie shop voor kokoswater, 

en loop door naar paperstore. Daarna verder, ik kom een gay koor tegen (filmpje) en uiteindelijk loop in tegen gansevoort market 

aan waar in een hamburger bestel. 

Wat een goede start van mijn trip. 

Ik lig te slapen, best vroeg, maar ach, ik heb tijdverschil.... wordt ik op de hotel telefoon door izzy gebeld.... hij heeft 04:00 uur) op het nieuws gezien dat er een explosie was op Manhattan en wilde weten of ik oke was. Gelukkig was ik oke natuurlijk, ik was er zelfs niet eens van op de hoogte. Maar het was best een heftig moment. 

En zelfs dichtbij, 10 straten maar van mij vandaan. Ik ben gaan slapen met de kennis dat er wellicht nog een locatie was waar iets verdachts was. 

My bucketlist for my next trip to NYC

For the first time I will visit New York city all by myself. I've decided to go alone to New York to experiance the city in a different way, also to find out if I can do this. Some time alone to find more "me" in this trip. 

A part of the whole experiance is the preparation of this trip. 

First to book my flight: DONE

Second to find and book a hotel, suitsable for me and my wallet: DONE

Next is to figure out what is happening in the city, where I haven't been to or what was still on my bucketlist after five previous visits. 

Here is a little list were I want to go:

Bike on the Brooklyn Bridge

Run in Central park

Take the Staten Island Ferry 

To draw some skyline's or buildings

A bookstore like The Strand or Barnes &Nobles

To see the Moma on friday afternoon 

Visit the Brooklyn fleamarket

To participate in the Grand Central terminal walk

See a movie

See a Broadway show

This is what I want to eat or taste:

A bagel at Murray's 

A wafel at a foodtruck

A frozen chocolate at serendipety

A real coffee, not just Starbucks 

A slice of pizza

A acai bowl

A slice of cheesecake

And I have a shoppinglist (offcorse):

Edsmaida, Corrie & Gracienne before we started

Last sunday, june 26, we started in Bergschenhoek to bike to the start at Nesselande. Gracienne came from Zoetermeer on het bike. She was very brave because she already had her first 10K before we drove to the start to bike 35K. Edsmaida had her bike in the back of het car. So with the three of us, we started to bike to the start, 10 K in appr. 40 min... 

All together, every year a different group...

This is the start.... after we collected our t-shirt, put it on and got our yoghurt as a in between breakfast...
At the start it was very crowded. Appr. 6000 ladies wanted to start.... the first girl who rode 65K were already gone. We were in the last batch to start. And still there were a lot of girls.

 We got ride with a nice temperature, but it was very crowded. Over the total route we stopped several times, to cross very busy streets, small bicicle roads that slowed us down and several other points. We sometimes walked a bit because that was easier than biking....

Half way we had some lunch and something to drink. This was a little disappointing. In the earlier years we got in the first stop a nice cup of coffee and a dilicious cupcake and a very good sandwich with an icecream for lunch at the second stop.
This year there was only one stop, that was our lunch with a cheeseroll, krentenbol (kind of an coffeeroll), eierkoek and a sultana cracker. So we were a little disappointed.

After our lunch we got back on our bike and biked the last bit.
A very happy day, with a lot of grazy, nice, loving ladies on a bike in the same bio t-shirt. I had a lot of fun, with the girls.... Thanks girls ! Next year we do it again...

ladiesrun Rotterdam June 19, 2011

After the last 10KM on April 10th I was determined to run again. All I wanted to do was to run a little faster then the last one.

So I bought myself a ticket to run with the Ladiesrun in Rotterdam. With this ticket as a reminder, I practiced a lot with my traininggroup. We trained every week on Thursday and on Saturday. On Thursdays we trained technique & speed. On Saturdays we trained endurance. Just to keep track of your heartbeat (not to high) and the distance (8KM or more).

The Ladiesrun is an event only for women/ladies. A total of 6000 ladies registered to run 5K or 10K.

On Sunday June 19th we gathered with all the ladies of RegioFit NL in the Ahoy Rotterdam to run the 10K. First there was a warming up. We entered the warming up in the middle because there was a lot of rain in the first part of the warming up. After that it was reletively dry. And when you are running you don't even notice a little bit of rain....

Ingrid, Wendy and I tried to stay together, but they run to fast for me. I am the slowest of them all and I had to let them go. They are just a lot lighter then me and have more experience so it is normal that they are faster. It hurts to see them run so lightly but I have to practice a lot, lose more weight and grow on my strenght. Then I hope I will run as fast as they did. But I think it is a long way to go....

Pretty

Last Sunday we had a high tea in Utrecht. We had a reunion with some GASTT trainers from FRS over the last three years. The group was originaly 11 people  in total, but we were with 5 trainers. That's fine, we could take to everybody and we sat in a nice restaurant.  And our table was like the picture above. Just in balance. Where I needed to adjust to was the tea in glasses. If it was my dissicion than I had served nice procelain teacups. It was different, but nice as well.

Idea for the patio

In the near future we want to live on Curaçao. And we are already busy with our future house and our life out there. Everywhere we go we keep our eyes and ears open. And if we spot a great idea, we make pictures or sketch it.

This is one example of an idea for our patio outside. And we can make it ourselves! Thats the great thing too.The live on Curaçao will be different. A lot relaxer than the live we have here. So I want to do a lot myself.

Look at the cabinet outside, Isn't that lovely!

And a large tray on the table with matching flowerbasket and small light. Great.

With a change of the flower you can make a whole different look.
